Mixtape Spotlight: Kobra - 1 In a Million

Kobra's 1 In a Million is a hip hop mixtape very reminiscent of what hip hop is missing today. It can almost be described as a trip down memory lane. The instrumentals used in the mixtape are very chill and relaxing. Kobra's smooth flow is a throwback to the golden age of hip hop. The sound of the CD is very similar to a combination between the G-Funk styles of the old California and the throwback backpack rap such as A Tribe Called Quest or The Phaycyde. My favorite track on the cd is Dime a Dozen, in which Kobra is aided by Nino Blu and uses his words to illustrate situations with different types of females from different walks of life. The beat is very infectious and the hook is very classic. Life in Paradise is also a strong track on the cd in which Kobra uses delivers a smooth, melodic masterpiece. He delivers real talk over a soulful instrumental giving you the feel good summer vibe. On the title track, "One in a Million", Kobra goes on a verbal assault on the instrumental to express his place in hip hop music and the world. This mixtape is a keeper and I would recommend it to any fan of real hip hop.
