Mitch Horowitz Answers Whether Jay-Z is an Occultist
Mitch Horowitz: No. He’s a genius who has a very shrewd eye for kind of oppositional imagery in our culture. And he uses these things and he understands the magnetism of these symbols. You know, symbols like the pentagram and the eye in the pyramid or astrological symbols, they do have a certain magnetic power. They have a pull on us. When people look at a crucifix or when people look at a Star of David, they feel something. There’s some kind of pull. It may just be a matter of conditioning, but the fact is, when you use the eye in the pyramid, it’s a magnetic symbol. It possesses something.
And I think when you’re using imagery that comes from the ancient world or that comes from Renaissance-era occultism, there is a little something going on there. We’ve never quite figured out a way to digest the image of the pentagram. Some people are really attracted to it, other people recoil from it. Jay-Z understands this and when he uses these images in his videos, on his clothing, and in other places, you know, he realizes that we are people who think in images and that you can take an image and you get a response from people. I was asked at one point whether I thought Jay-Z was a Freemason because of some of the images that appear in his videos. One of his videos also shows an image of Mao Tse Tung, I don’t think he’s an Agrarian Socialist, but he understand in the same way that street artists do that you can take these images and they touch an emotional cord in us that sometimes is very subliminal, even mysterious.
I don’t think he’s an occultist, but I do think he is probably a genius in terms of using imagery.

Taylor Swift's Label says Kanye Incident Helped
Paul Wall and Chamillionaire once said controversy sells, and no one knows this better than Kanye West and Taylor Swfit. Now, with both artists gearing up to release highly anticipated albums this fourth quarter, Swift's label has opened up about how their 2009 incident at the MTV Video Music Award. Scott Borchetta, the president of Swift's label Big Machine, said the incident brought a lot of attention to her music, making it the best selling album of 2009.
"The Kanye incident brought attention to Taylor, to an audience that did not really know her or her music," said Borchetta. “And when they did check it out, they discovered that they really liked it." (WSJ.com)
Swift's record sales in 2009 further confirm the impact of Ye's outburst. Her self-titled 2006 debut topped out at 4,821,000 units sold, while in the wake of the VMAs, her 2008 release Fearless jumped to 6,027,000 units. And now, it looks like Mr. West is helping to launch her into third album Speak Now, as the single "Innocent" dealt with the fiasco at the VMAs.
"Well, [the incident] affected her to the point that she wrote a song about it," said Borchetta. "So obviously it was a big moment in her life. Did it change her? Does he have more fear of things like that happening at awards shows? No. She’s a tough person and she’s very open." (WSJ.com

Sade Turns Down an Opportunity to Work with Jay-Z

In an age of artists who blog and tweet opinions, heartaches and promotional messages on an hourly basis, Sade, predictably, demurs. She is not on Twitter or Facebook, though the band has an official Facebook page. She does, however, search the Web "looking for bricks and railing" for her farm.
One 21st century music business convention she does acknowledge enjoying is sampling. "When it comes to sample clearances, I'm probably the cheapest chick in the west," she says, quite amused by that idea. She has, however, turned down many prominent MCs, including Jay –Z, who have wanted to rhyme over her beats or do "collabos" with her singing a hook on a hip-hop track.
"I'm too scared," she says. "They'll find me out. It's like 'The Wizard of Oz.' They'll find out there's nothing there. As for collaborations, I'm collaborating with the band and do what we do. I see myself as a member of this band who does these songs that we write."

Raz-B calls Marques Houston and Chris Stokes Pedophiles
We all may remember back in 2007 when Raz-B of B2K called out his older cousin music mogul Chris Stokes for allegedly raping him, b2k and Immature. He later retracted the claims after a dinner with Stokes now he's back with new claims stating that along with Stokes, singer Marques Houston is also an alleged pedophile. I'm starting to find this hard to believe being the fact that in the first video of these new claims he's watching the Eddie Long scandals and I guess he's trying to ride off that fame and second the look in his face is quite disturbed and I really think he needs help as well as the fact that every year he's dropping a new scandal to stay afloat for his drowning music career. watch the disturbing videos below
