Monday Morning Buzz: Mariah's "Angel Advocate" SCRAPPED, J.Lo signs to Island Def Jam

While Mariah Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, have yet to confirm or deny the speculation, the LP – which was a Target exclusive – has interestingly vanished from listings on the Target website, as well as Amazon where it was also featured as a download-only release. Additionally, despite being but a few weeks away from its announced release date of March 30th, no album cover nor promotional material for the record has surfaced.

Prior to now an air of silence has plagued suggestion of the album’s axe, with calls to Carey’s rep going unanswered. However, as per CD Now’s updated listings, ‘Advocate’ page, which previously indicated a March 30th store date, now reads ‘Released Cancelled’.

The singer’s latest set-back comes on the heels of the poor performance of her ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’ LP, as well as the so-so success of her ‘Angel’s Advocate Tour’ – the box office scores of which saw particular dates struggle to fill 3000-seat arenas.

Jennifer Lopez revamps new album & heads back into studio…

It was officially confirmed by Billboard yesterday that singer Jennifer Lopez has signed to Island Def Jam. Many of us had speculated her move after she was snapped having a public lunch with Island Def Jam chief LA Reid and new label mate Rihanna last month. The move also puts her in the same boat as bitter nemesis Mariah Carey.
.
Thaddis ‘Kuk’ Harrell and the rest of Tricky Stewart’s RedZone team are also confirmed to be heading back into the studio shortly to work with the 40-year-old on her new album. This will be to retweak the project which is believed to have a new album title now as opposed to ‘Love?’. If you’re not familiar with Harrell, he is the vocal producer and co-writer of Rihanna’s Grammy-winning single ‘Umbrella’, and a composer and engineer on Beyonce’s Grammy-winning single ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’. Both songs were produced and written by popular production duo Tricky Stewart and The Dream.
.
Lastly, superproducer Danja also hinted on his Twitter Thursday (March 18th) that he has catered new music to the project. However, there was no immediete elaboration on whether he was referring to new tracks or the ones he’d done for her previously. Is J.Lo beating a dead horse with this project or is there still hope for the mum of two?
