Todays Artist Spotlight comes from up and coming New York rapper Chris Cartier. Having already opened for A$AP Rocky, Vinny Cha$e, Ghostface Killah and many more, Chris is definetely making moves and with his young bravado and hardcore charisma the sky is the limit. Chris is currently knee deep working on his currently untitled mixtape due out later this year. I'll definitely be on the lookout for it and you should also. His use of combinations of heavy hitting bass and trippy spaced out sounds create for a very exciting and unique listening experience. What really makes his tracks stand out is his ability to mesh sounds in which normally don't go together in order to create a fresh and innovative sound.

Kali, Mega and Demo are the funky Steed Lord

Icelandic trio Steed Lord blends electronic Nu-Disco (think Justice meets La Roux with a better vocalist) beats with outrageous fashion that'll make even Lady Gaga blush. The band formed in 2006 and have since toured the world and remixed tracks for acts such as Crookers, Chromeo, Passion Pit, Future Flashs and many more. The band has also released two very excellent dance albums (Truth Serum & Heart II Heart) both of which consist of cohesive and seamless records and later this year the band is releasing a 3rd record Eddie House which will take on a more house approach as opposed to their theatrical Nu-Disco vibe after the jump peep videos and more photos of the band both of their albums are available for download everywhere.

Artist Spotlight: Sweatshop Union - Makeshift Kingdom

Directed by Stuey Kubrick, Makeshift Kingdom was shot mid-winter in northern Canada. Filmed over three days, the video goes from the Jasper ice caves to the massive abandoned mines of Hope, BC. It looks cold as hell. It also makes for a good looking video. Think coyotes, elk, and fur pelts. Post-apocalyptic hip hop at it's finest

Artist Spotlight: Piel

Every now and then we at THEFRESHCOMMITTEE like to try to break acts who aren't primarily in the urban department, seeing that this site is ran by 2 aspiring rappers, a singer and a gym teacher all being negro in the worst way. Anyway, Piel is  a Los Angeles Punk Band based fronted by singer Tiki, with Jawnee on keys, Steve and Chris killing the guitars, RawB on the drums and Tamiye on the taiko (which happens to be my 5th favorite instrument of all time). There sound is an eclectic mix of  hardcore punk music with a hint of electronica and trip hop influence with Tiki's sweet sweet voice sounding like honey over the hard. I discovered this band while visiting one of my favorite sites Afropunk to be exact and was hooked after watching the Contagious video from their free album and once I downloaded the record I wanted to have a fucking party their music isn't anything less than superb and after the jump you can view the video for contagious and find out how to get your hands on their free mini album download

Artist Spotlight: Her Majesty and The Wolves

Skeptical of this project at the beginning I kind of grew fond of the collective known as “Her Majesty and The Wolves”. Comprising of former Pussycat Doll Kim Wyatt and one half of the hetero-duo Jupiter Rising , Spencer Nezey they came together while Kim was working on her as yet titled solo debut album deciding what direction to go. My reservation with this project stem from the fat that while in PCD Kim, never sung a lick until their second album on a deluxe bonus track. She covered a 90’s classic “Don’t Wanna Fall In Love” which when I first heard it I was highly sketchy about it but however it grew on me like a virus. I’ve been a fan of Jupiter Rising from 07 when I seen them on MTV’s Sweet 16 and been following Spencer and Jesse Payo for the past 3 years and was very disappointed when I’ve heard they’ve split, even though it has YET to be confirmed. Back in May Kim announced via Facebook that she had been working on another project called ‘Her Majesty and The Wolves” living her fans in the dark about what it was. Linked them to a mixtape which surprisingly didn’t feature any Kimberly solo material nor any material by the band. Then finally in August they released via there official website ’Glaciers” which caps in at about 6 minutes long and is quite the trippy groove perfect for a rainy day or if your so under the influence you just don’t give a damn. Spencer’s production is beyond flawless while Kim is still figuring out her voice she herself did a pretty good job, the video adds to the trippiness despite the very low budget it still kind of draw the point of this project, it’s not suppose to make sense to you unless you want it to.

Artist Spotlight: Unique

I've ran across Unique quite a few times within the last few months and decided to feature him on the site. Born Unique Zayas,from Brooklyn New York. He's been touring with Chris Brown and Ne-Yo as well as showcasing his talents with at events such as the BMI Urban showcase and many more. He signed to Def Jam sometime in 2008 and has been prepping his debut album due for release sometime this year. In late 2009 he released a single "Beat Of My Drum" and I must say the record is pretty hot and managed to gather him a very supportive fanbase who have made various fan pages dedicated to the up and coming singer. With a distinct look that seperates him from all the other guys in the game as well as voice that will make you listen he is destined for greatness. Artist Spotlight: Sevin

i was first put onto Sevin's music by Karin, a friend of mine, and like most people I was a bit skeptical in checking his music out due to the abundance of artists that are sent to me by friends and even people I don't know. But upon listening to Sevin I quickly lost all doubt I had about listening because I quickly realized that he is a talent that the R&B industry so desperately needs with the ridiculous number of "pop" or "electronic" acts coming out. Sevin is very grass roots R&B, similar to the acts you came up loving. His song "Rain" is a classic example of what R&B should be like. It's smooth, relaxing and has a very sexy feel to it. It features Sevin crooning to a woman explaining how they are about to change the weather. His track Patron, that he performs in the video above is a cool club banger with an accompanying dance. My favorite song from Sevin that I heard was "Superhero(feat. Jayceon)". It's a great track in which he uses alot of harmonies and melodies to sing about being a ladys Superman while assisted by rapper Jayceon. You should check out Sevin and his music. Artist Spotlight: Jeff Spec

"Sneakerboxxx" is the latest offering from Jeff Spec, one of Vancouver's most prolific hip hop artists. The album is experimental in the context of modern hip hop, incorporating mainly live instrumentation alongside soulful vocal arrangements. Jeff's rhymes range from storytelling to social commentary, and from creative wordplay to conversational poetry. The 11 tracks promise to offer something for everyone; guest appearances include Moka Only and Shane Eli, as well as up-and-coming vocalists NaRai, Omar Khan, and Daniel Klenner.

While Jeff has worked with various labels in the past, including New York-based Day By Day Entertainment, "Sneakerboxxx" is released on his own imprint, Pushin' Records. Spec is a staple on the live music scene in Vancouver and abroad, and has developed a fanbase reaching around the globe. His previous albums "Rhythm and Blues" and "...a little night music" charted in the Chart Attack and !earshot top 10 for hip hop, nationwide. He will be touring Canada and the U.S. throughout the year in support of the record, and will release at least 4 videos, starting with "Truck Sh*t" in late June, 2010.
The material included on "Sneakerboxxx" has already proven to appeal to a broader audience than (but definitely not excluding) just the traditional hip hop heads, due in part to heavy contributions from Vancouver's Star Captains, a jazz-soul fusion sextet that boasts a strong stage presence and a healthy following of its own.

Artist Spotlight: Carvis

Carvis is an R&B singer who cites his influences as James Brown, Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye. While growing up in Gulfport Mississippi, Carvis quickly became attached to music and began to study the music he enjoyed listening to. It wasn't until high school that he began to pursue his ambition as a musician. He began singing in choir and winning a number of local talent shows. Now only is Carvis a singer, but he is also a basketball player playing at the college level. When Hurrican Katrina almost completely destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Carvis made Orlando, Florida his second home. With great vocal talent and a Mississipi swag, the sky is the limit for singer Carvis.

Artist Spotlight: Teddy Jackson's Unawerewolf

Teddy Jackson is an amazing pop/r&b singer with a great voice and range. His mixtape Unawerewolf is a great tape which allows him to showcase his versatility and lyrical prowess while delivering a quality. Don't mistake this for the typical "mixtape" because the compilation and quality of the material on the tape allow it to sound at the same level as an album. The songs are consistently good and have great replay value. On the track "Might Morphin PR" while assisted by Rockie Rayne, the two borrow Chris Brown's "Transformers" beat and morph it into a cybernetic banger with references to popular robots throughout entertainment. With strong punchlines and pop culture references, this song definitely breathes new breath to the popular instrumental. Unawerewolf's stand out song in my opinion is Unawerewolf(Part 2). The song is powered by an instrumental very reminiscent of something the late Michael Jackson would have graced. Teddy's vocals are very powerful on the song and the song is very catchy. The instrumental breaks are ridiculous on this track. The mixtape is excellent and is definitely worth downloading. It has appearances by Omarion, Gucci Mane, Cassie, LP & PG. The album...i mean mixtape, its on point...
