Estonian Rocker is more MONTEROUS than the fame monster herself. Tho her debut didn't even get noticed stateside, she's been cooking up a follow up to the very dark and anguish filled debut "Love Is Dead"
In 2008 A few months before Gaga's "Just Dance" was released, I stumbled upon this criptic video of a young girl singing some creepy shit the lyrics went: "She has a little creepy cat, And a little creepy bat, Little rocking chair,
And an old blue hat"
and I was in lust, it's rare you stumble upon emo-pop. Usually it's hard beats and some suburban raised guy with eyeliner and skinnies crying about how his life is so horrible, smh really?
What was unique about Kerli is the fact she was raised comunist, in eastern Europe where no one was supportive of her dreams only happy for her downfall. It ties into her emo theme of love being dead. Take a look at her video below for "Walking On Air":
She recently made headlines after being called a Gaga knock off, then returning the favor as describing her as a "fucking Bitch". After various YouTube videos and comments comparing the two I've come to the conclusion that image wise Gaga is more extreme than Kerli, yes Kerli did it before Gaga but they both borrowed from previous stars as well as musically Gaga's Monster album bites Love Is Dead, however love is dead is stronger and darker.
Kerli has since reemerged on the "Almost Alice" soundtrack with the single "Tea Party" (click link to download) and it's a twisted cynical party about corrupting the world with magical tea, sort of like the movie "Alice and Wonderland".
With cryptic lyrics, outlandish costumes and mindfucking videos, Kerli is the type of artist only the cool people like. She isn't one for top 40success unless she dumbs it down.
Her new album is slated for a release sometime this year, while you can buy "Love Is Dead" on iTunes now.
