Cilia from Outer Space

The Light of Life from daihei shibata on Vimeo.

In director Daihei Sibata’s birth odyssey, graceful cilia tendrils fan out from cells, burst into light, grow into anemone-like plants and eventually develop into a real human person. It’s a celebration of life (um, it’s titled “The Light of Life”) but beyond the literal, it looks as airy and beautiful as deep-sea creatures and seems to allude to as-yet-unimagined life from outer space, like he’s imagining the thread of everyone being connected. YO WE ARE ALL ONE, MAN! Set to Debussy, its unpretentious beauty of it is a real Friday moodbooster. Happy weekend!
