WesleyPipes Hats is a hat company that started in late 2009 with the "original" WesleyPipes Hats by Shane Stevens. The original hat was designed for Stevens' brother who came from a motorcross background and was always seen rocking trucker hats. This first hat was a light grey foam/mesh hat simply stating "Wesley Pipes" in the middle with a vertical exhaust pipe on each side. What began as 

a comical yet fitting name stuck as the line was originally developed. When asked about the inspiration behind the designs and brand Stevens' said "I have a background in studio art and have always loved painting. I have painted walls, cars, boards, and canvas in many different styles over the years. I have sold in local galleries as well produced many commissioned pieces. Around this time in 2009, times where getting tough in the art game due to the "recession", so I decided to paint on a different medium, hats. I produced a small sample series that I gave to friends and family to sport and give me feedback. That series is known as "W.Pipes Series 1" and can be viewed on the "Archives" page of the Official WesleyPipes Hats Site" Stevens' received a large amount of positive responses to his line and decided to make a small investment into trucker hats. Since then, Stevens' has expanded the line now offering Limited Edition Snapbacks, WPH Mesh Trucker Snapbacks, WPH Natural Hemp Strapbacks and more. WesleyPipes Hats mission statement is "Dedicated to providing the public with the freshest hats available." It's safe to say that Stevens' hasn't deviated from this statement and is working to bring the people a better brand and better product to wear. WesleyPipes Hats represents lyricists, djs, and athletes  across the country and am always interested in new talent. If you have skills, hit up Stevens'. In the future, I look forward to doing artist collaborations as well as fitted styles. You can expect to see more unique styles and designs all the time. I anticipate WPH coming to a shop near you.

Though to be fair, we've always been suckers for the single-shot, moving dolly stuff. It's may not be the Copacabana scene from Goodfellas, but I doubt Henry Hill could belt one out like this. The Unexpected Influences of Musical Giants – Tupac, Nirvana, Kanye and More

Collaboration across genres is nothing new in the world of popular music although the  results often run the gamut. One of the earliest examples of blending seemingly radically different genres together is Run-D.M.C.’s collaboration with Aerosmith in 1986. Public Enemy followed suit in 1991 recording a new version of “Bring the Noise” full of pounding double bass and abrasive distortion with thrash metal outfit Anthrax. The newfound genre known as rap rock continued to flourish through the early 90s with acts like Rage Against the Machine and Faith No More becoming both commercially and critically successful.

Most artists, however, chose to remain closer to their own genre and style and keep their influences to themselves or as inspiration. It’s no surprise then the amount of influence or inspiration artists that are associated with their own genre can exude upon the next generation. Some influences though seem so juxtaposed with a newer artist’s style that it warrants a closer look.

Below are 5 artists whose influences are as unexpected as their talent is wide.

An 8-Bit Grand Theft Auto: Retro City Rampage Review

Retro City Rampage released last week and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite games out. Indie developer Brian Pravinciano has put together a masterpiece. The game plays like something straight out of the 8-Bit era. With plenty of references to classic games, pop culture and history, RCR delivers a fun, quirky game with plenty of mayhem like Grand Theft Auto. Be sure to check out Retro City Rampage on either PC, Playstation 3 or Playstation Vita with X-Box 360 and WiiWare versions coming later this fall.
