First it was Blackplanet. Then it was Hi5. Shortly after, Myspace came about. Now It's Facebook. What's next? Twitter, that's what. Not only do I believe that Twitter will be the most dominant social networking site of the future, but I also believe that Twitter is co-staring with Facebook as of current. Why? Because it's a much more simple, relaxed social networking site. On Twitter, no one cares about what pictures you're tagged in, the statuses you post, or who you're in a relationship with... all those intimate details are accessible on Facebook. Twitter heads only care about how exciting and unique your tweets are.
Interestingly enough, quite a few number of celebrities have taken a special liking to Twitter, frequently using it as a means to communicate with their fans on a more personal level. Over the years, celebrities have generated some of the most controversial tweets. Musical artist, Pink tweeted the following from the 09' MTV Video Music Awards, "Kanye west is the biggest piece of shit on earth. Quote Me." Also, after the death of the world's most renown Pop idol, Michael Jackson, the mother of Chris Brown tweeted, "MICHAEL JACSKON DIED SO THAT CHRIS BROWN COULD LIVE!!!!!!" Needless to say that this lady is completely off her rockers... but aren't we all a bit crazy on Twitter?
One can see how Twitter has help to publicize a string a controversial statements made by celebrities and non celebrities alike. NBA superstar, LeBron James is the latest to shock the world via Twitter with brash statements. On the heels of his ex team, the Cavaliers being manhandled by the Lakers (Final score: 57-112), he tweeted, "Crazy. Karma is a b****.. Gets you every time. Its not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything!" What makes this tweet news-worthy is that fact that he had one of the single ugliest team/player divorces in sports history with the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise... and possibly even the entire state of Ohio. Countless numbers of his jerseys were burned and disposed of. His decision to leave his hometown team for an opportunity to play alongside his fellow 03' superstar draftees, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach shocked the sports world and left a sour taste in the mouths of many. This seemingly simple tweet will undoubtedly add fuel to the fire, which looks like it's far from being extinguished.
Long story short... thank you, Twitter. Thank you for providing a social networking site that people feel comfortable enough with to share their true thoughts and feelings on. Most of my tweets will never, ever be made into Facebook statuses. Why? They're too raw, unfiltered and just plain ol' raunchy. I once heard someone describe Twitter as "public text messaging." I totally agree. So again, thank you.
